Jamie Carroll Foundation

The Jamie Carroll Foundation was created to support youth in Kelowna and West Kelowna by removing financial barriers to sport participation. We know that participating in organized sports isn’t just about competition. It builds confidence, friendships, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Every young person who wants to play should have the opportunity to do so, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

This financial assistance is intended to help cover costs associated with registering for minor hockey (and other sports, where applicable) within our community.

Assistance is available to youth who meet all the following criteria:

• Age: Youth aged 4 to 18 years old 
• Residence: Must reside in Kelowna or West Kelowna
• Sport Participation: Must be registered (or planning to register) in an organized sport program (e.g., KMHA or WKMHA for hockey)
• Assistance is based on financial need, not athletic performance or academic achievement

This program is inclusive of all children, regardless of gender identity or ability.

The Jamie Carroll Foundation can provide financial support toward:

• Minor hockey registration fees
• Sport program fees (where applicable)
• Equipment support (considered on a case-by-case basis)

Support amounts will vary depending on available funds and the number of applicants.

To apply for financial assistance, please include the following:

1. Application Form/ Written Summary, such as a short paragraph (from parent/guardian) explaining: Why assistance is needed; Which sport/program the child plans to participate in; Any additional barriers the family is facing.
2. Proof of Residence, such as a utility bill or school enrollment confirmation.
3. Proof of Student Status, such as a recent report card or school confirmation. This is not used to judge academic performance but to confirm the applicant is actively enrolled.
4. Registration Confirmation or Intent, such as a copy of the sport registration invoice or intent to register with KMHA or WKMHA.

Applications will be reviewed confidentially and with respect to privacy and dignity.

The Jamie Carroll Foundation evaluates all applications received on or before September 30 each year. 

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and families are encouraged to apply early.

Applicants will be contacted directly regarding funding decisions. Where possible, approved funding will be distributed directly to the sport organization to assist with registration fees.

Families are encouraged to explore other available community sport funding programs, such as KidSport or Jumpstart, where appropriate.

If you have applied for or expect to receive funding from another source, please indicate this in your application. This helps the Jamie Carroll Foundation support as many families as possible.

At the Jamie Carroll Foundation, we believe the benefits of sports, including confidence, connection, and community, should be available to all children. We’re proud to help families in Kelowna and West Kelowna access opportunities for participation and belonging.

The Foundation is supported through our JC Classic events and community giving initiatives. Families who receive or apply for support are encouraged, when able, to participate, volunteer, attend, or help spread the word about these events and our sponsors. It’s through this shared community effort that we continue to grow and support more young athletes each year.
